Electric Roof Lantern Blind With Guide Cords

One of the most common types of cellular electric roof lantern blind are those with visible guide cords. These cords are an important design feature, preventing any sagging that can occur when cellular fabric is installed horizontally.

The guide cords provide extra support across the blind, helping it to maintain its shape while also ensuring the fabric moves smoothly along the track. This means the blind opens and closes seamlessly, even across wider spans of glass.

Because of their added stability, guide cord blinds are ideal for larger roof lanterns or installations where strength and reliability are key. Despite the cords being visible, they are designed to be as discreet as possible so they don’t distract from the clean look of your roof lantern.

Paired with electric operation, these blinds offer both convenience and durability. With the touch of a button you can control the light and heat entering your room, while the reinforced support system ensures a long-lasting, dependable solution.

Our Guide Cord Blinds in Action

Cellular roof lantern blinds with guide cords showing when the blind is open. Suitable for blinds up to 3000mm width x 4000mm drop:

Electric Roof Lantern Blind With No Guide Cords

Our non-corded roof lantern blinds are designed to give a clean, uncluttered look, with no visible cords running across the fabric. This makes them a popular choice for homeowners who prefer a sleek, minimalist finish that doesn’t distract from the design of the lantern itself.

These blinds are ideal for smaller lanterns where the fabric can remain taut without extra support. For larger lanterns, rib supports can be incorporated into the design. These slim support ribs retract neatly with the blind when it’s opened, maintaining a tidy appearance while ensuring the fabric stays evenly tensioned.

Like all of our electric blinds, the non-corded option gives you easy light and temperature control at the touch of a button. With fewer visible components, they are also simple to clean and maintain.

For anyone looking for a modern solution that balances style, practicality, and versatility, non-corded roof lantern blinds are an excellent choice.

Electric Blinds For Extra Large Lanterns

For very large roof lanterns, the most effective option is to install two blinds that meet in the middle at a permanent T-bar post. This setup allows wide spans to be covered neatly while still ensuring smooth, reliable operation.

Please note that for this configuration more than one blind must be purchased, with each blind supplied with its own components (such as battery and solar panel if required).

If you’re unsure of the best setup for your lantern or would like tailored advice, please contact us for more information.

Manual Roof Lantern Blinds

Our manual roof lantern blinds with no guide cords are a cost-effective way to cover your lantern without compromising on style. Lightweight and easy to operate, they’re opened and closed using an extendable draw pole that adjusts between 1.4 metres and 2.5 metres.

These blinds are available in both light filtering and blackout fabrics, giving you the flexibility to reduce glare or achieve a darker room when needed. With their simple design and reliable operation, manual blinds are a great choice for those looking for an affordable and practical solution.

Fabric Types

Our cellular fabrics come in two fabric types: blackout and light filtering / translucent. The blackout option creates a much darker effect, excellent if you have a TV in the room or you want to have the option for a darker room, creating a much cooler temperature.

The light filtering / translucent option is great if you want to close the blind to keep the room nice and cool and to take the glare away from the sun, but still allow some light in to the room.

Both fabric types have excellent thermal properties. The nature of the fabric means that the layer of air that is naturally trapped in between the cells of the fabric reduces thermal transfer,  keeping the room cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Power & Control Options

Once you’ve chosen your blind type, the next step is deciding how it’s powered and controlled. We offer simple, reliable options to suit different homes and budgets, from battery with solar top-ups to hardwired setups, and controls ranging from remotes to smart home integration. If you’re unsure what’s best, contact us and we’ll guide you.

Power

Battery with Solar Panel
Solar Panel

Ideal when there’s no power near the lantern. The solar panel trickle-charges the battery to keep it topped up. You may still need to charge the battery occasionally, especially during prolonged gloomy weather.

Main - 3 Pin Plug
mains power

The simplest option if you have a socket near the lantern. Install the blind, plug it in, and you’re ready to go.

Hardwired
Fuse Spur Image

Great where you already have power nearby (for example, lighting feeds). An electrician can add a fused spur by the lantern for a neat, permanent supply.

Control Options

Remote Control
wireless remote

Our most popular choice. One handset can control multiple blinds in the same room, with individual channels for single-blind control or a group channel to move them together.

Wall Switch
Wall switch

Works just like the remote but fixed in place. A tidy, always-there control point.

Smart Control
Tahoma

Full automation and voice control (e.g., Alexa/Google) are available on corded systems only via the dedicated smart hub.  For non-corded electric blinds there is a plug-in bridge option that allows control via an app on your phone.

Taking Your Measurements

Getting the sizes right is the most important step before ordering. You’ll measure exactly where the blind will be installed, not at the glass, so we can make a perfect fit the first time. Follow the simple steps below and use the diagram as a reference.

  • Measure where the blind will sit, not at the glass. Take your sizes at the exact installation position, at least 100 mm below the lantern glass.

  • Measure width and drop in three places (left/centre/right for width, top/middle/bottom for drop). Record the smallest width and largest drop.

  • Don’t worry if it isn’t perfectly square. Lantern openings are rarely exact, which is why we ask for multiple measurements.

  • Choose your fabric stack end. Decide which end you want the fabric to gather to when fully open (this becomes the “park” position).

  • Use a steel tape and note sizes in millimetres for accuracy.

  • See the diagram for exactly which points to measure.

Measure & Installation Service

We keep things affordable, so our first recommendation is to measure and install yourself. The blinds are designed to be straightforward, and we provide guidance to help you get it right.

If DIY isn’t an option, a reputable local handyman is often the most cost-effective route. Look for strong reviews on Checkatrade or ask for recommendations locally via social media.

For complete peace of mind, we can arrange a professional measure and installation through our trusted partner.

Please note, mains wiring isn’t included. If you need a hardwired supply, a qualified electrician will be required, while battery and solar setups don’t need one. Installation assumes there’s a suitable fixing for the blind frame, so let us know if that’s not in place.
